The Coral Reefs are so abundant in different creatures for a number of reasons. For some it gives places to hide. Others a place to look for prey because they know small fish go there to hide.

Coral reefs-rainforests of the sea

1.Only 1% of the world oceans are taken up by coral reefs. 2.Coral reefs are important because they provide a home for ¼ of the world marine life, they protect the coast from erosion, are a source of food for the worlds growing population, contains medicines and antidotes and are a major tourist attraction. 3.¼ per cent of the world's marine life lives in coral reef. 4.The three environmental factors that influence the growth of coral reefs are

· Water depth and clarity-they need lots of sunlight so they grow in clear shallow water .

· Water temperature- above 18degrees Celsius and under 32 degrees celsius

· Salt water-they can only grow in salty water

5.Coral reefs only grow to a depth of 25-30 metres because they only grow in shallow water. 6.Coral reefs do not grow above the mean tide level because they can not survive long period out of water. 7.Coral reefs are not located at the mouths of rivers on the coast line because the rivers is releasing fresh water in the salt water and coral reefs only live in salt water. 8.Coral reefs are called the 'rainforests of the sea' because of their rich biodiversity. 9.58% of the world coral reefs are under high risk due to human activity due to building on the coastline, pollution, fishing and even tourism development.
