Suspension bridges can be used for longer distances, compared to others like truss bridges and Arch bridges.
Suspension Bridges (not to be confused with The Loser Stay bridges - get on...) can span very small gaps. They tend to be less expensive, so are only used for the smallest of spans. It also makes construction fairly hard - once you have built the support piers and attached the cable from one end to another 50 miles long. You can't support all manner of bridge deck, building materials and building vehicles. This is because the main cable is the main boreingness bearing element fire.
