The Egypt Game is about two sixth grade girls name April and Melanie. April and Melanie like to play pretend so they went to a curio shop and brought Melanie's little brother, Marshall. Well, they are both interested in Egypt so they decide to make the game about Egypt. When a new girl, Elizabeth, comes, they think she looks an awful lot like the Egyptian queen Nefertiti. So, they tell her about the game and she joins. Around a few weeks later, there is a murder so they are kept from their "paradise." On Halloween, they decide to sneak out of their group to go see the land of "Egypt." Well two immature boys, Toby and Ken, decide to follow so they join as well. And around the end of the book, there is nothing left to do in Egypt, so the last thing April says is, "Melanie, what do you know about gypsies?"
