the big one is so big because it blocks the entrance to the shell when they retract into it to help protect them. it is also used to climb and for defence. the small claw is for grooming and eating.

∙ 13y agoIt is because it is a male or boy.Females or girls have two regular sized claws but males have one larger claw unlike its other in which it uses to attract females.If a female likes the size of the males claw it will then create offspring or children.If you notice little white balls around there den it is because they eat the dirt and spit out the salt.That is why some fiddler crabs have bigger left claws and not right.

You cannot tell the gender from their claws or color. You must look for the presence of "gonopores" at the base of the last pair of walking legs. Gonopores will be on the female crab they look like two small dots. Look up "hermit crab gonopores" for a photo reference.
