Why do people say 'cheers' while drinking alcohol?

The origin of it in the old times was to kick out evil spirits with the sound of the cups. And later it started to have a different explanation, that is when you want to drink you see it, taste it, feel it (touching the cup with the hands), Smell it what is left is hearing it so you have to cheer so that you hear the clicking sound of the cups.

In the past, it was used to thank the false gods of the pagans before they drank and ate. Almost like a form of prayer. Since pagan worship spead and became widely accepted, this tradition was also carried down along with it.

CHEERS is done since the ancient times of kings n queens, where the host serves the

drink, after which all the people who participate for the toast bring their glass together

in order not only to make the glass touch sound but so that the wine jumps from one glass to another, this would prove them that there is no poison in the drink and it is safe to drink, and even if its there its been shared by all around the table n been sipped

together by all without delaying or keeping the glass on the table.
