Why do have so many advertisements?

WikiAnswers uses advertisements to support its server costs. The reason that WikiAnswers has so many ads is because more and more people are using addons for their browsers and programs that block ads.

Also, some of the money generated by the WikiAnswers ads may go to supporting Wikipedia. If you know this to either be true or false for a fact, click on "Improve answer" and fix it by either confirming or denying it.

Revenue but I think only people like you that haven't registered get the bulk of them so users enjoy the site more.

Other thoughts:

• Because we are all about making money from advertisers. We put up a catchy headline and then make it as difficult as possible to see the information that the catchy headline is about.
• Because that is how this website gets there money. The ads pay the website a certinamount the the website will display there ad to the side of the screen for about 30 seconds and then it switches to a different ad!
• There are so many ads on the site for a reason, and that is to make revenue to keep this site in business.

If you register for an Answers.com account and log in, you will have a much better ad-free experience. (You will have access to a settings page where you can turn the ads off.)

While site ads and pop-up ads may be annoying to most people, they're necessary in order to pay for bandwidth. You can always block them if you create an account, which gives you a setting to block ads, or use a browser ad blocker.

Adverts help to pay for the running costs of almost every web-site (not just this one !). However - if you're feeling a little 'overwhelmed' - there are free ad-blocking programs available on the internet.
