There can be many reasons for this. Most that people who don't self harm don't understand. It is a complex thing to explain and understand. people may be unhappy or depressed about something. Self harm may make them feel better. Also it's a way of staying alive. People self harm to prove to themselves that they don't want to die and that they are alive. Seeing blood run from your skin is like seeing all your problems bleed away. Some people cut or burn themselves to make themselves feel something because they are emotionally numb. Or they self harm or to distract themselves from their current pain or to stop intrusive thoughts.

To be clear, self harm is a VERY vicious cycle. Once this addiction starts, you cant stop. You end up worse and worse. its a very difficult thing to stop. Many people think it is attention seeking behavior but that it FAR FROM THE POINT!

Some do it because of a feeling of worthlessness, low self-esteem and relationship issues. Try not to get into it. It is horrible and hard to stop. And because you stupid you you stupid
