You didn't specify what type of LCD TV you have, whether it's a thinline or an LCD projection set.

If it's a projection set, there's an item in your TV called a lamp ballast, which is used to ignite the gas discharge projection lamp in your TV so that you can see a picture. This is a high-voltage lamp and the ballast is supposed to create at least three high voltage pulses when it starts up, to ensure the gas in the lamp ignites and the lamp starts up.

What you're probably earing is the three start up pulses, which sould like loud, static electric discharges when you turn the set on.

You may be referring to a cathode ray tube, type of TV. The front inside of the tube has a very high voltage applied to the Anode. (30,000v) This attracts the cathode rays, from the guns in the neck, to the phosphor coating on the inside front of the screen.

This high voltage causes a static charge on the front of the screen, which attracts dust. This will cause a crackle as the charge builds up when first switched on. Sometimes if you touch it, you can get a spark jump from your fingertip to the screen. Perfectly harmless.

If you have Cable Television, Satellite TV or another pay TV service, make sure your cord is plugged correctly and snugly into the proper inputs. It could also be the cord itself has gone bad or has been damaged.
