Best Answer

simple diffusion. When you surround a cell with water the water diffuses through the cell membrane causing it to swell and burst. The opposite is hyper tonic.

What happens to a cell when it is placed into a solution that is hypo-tonic to it?

Water moves into the cell by osmosis. If it is a plant cell, it will become fully turgid. If it is an animal cell, the cell will become larger and larger and will eventually burst.

What are the results if you put a plant cell and an animal cell in a hyper tonic solution?

they die

WHAT happen if plant cell is placed n hyper tonic solution?

cell walls rupture

What is the difference between animal and plant cell in the distilled solution?

In a distilled solution an animal cell will swell and possibly burst. In a distilled solution the cell wall of the plant cell allows the plant cell to retain its shape.

How will a plant cell respond differently than a animal cell?

It will not burst when placed in a dilute solution.

What is done to a cell that is placed in a hypo tonic solution?

It will probably burst.A hypo-tonic solution means that there is less dissolved solute in the solution than there is in the cell, and a greater concentration of the solution (ie water).Since there's a greater concentration of water outside the cell, osmosis will cause a net movement of water into the cell, causing it to swell and most-likely burst.

Why do plant and bacterial cell not burst in a very dilute solution?

Plant and bacteria cells have rigid cell walls that are able to provide pressure against a swelling cell, preventing the cell from bursting.

Why plant cell does not burst if placed constantly in hypotonic solution?

well the cell walls prevent the cell from expanding but it does cause little damage to the cell wall

Why does a plant cell shrink when put in hyper tonic solution?

they don't because they have a cell wall. they have what we call plasmolisis. which is when the it looses water (because of the concentration gradient)

If placed in a hypotonic solution a plant cell will?

No, because the plant cell contains a cell wall which causes the plant cell not to burst. But, it will gain water until it cannot take anymore and the pressure will prevent more water from entering.

What is the outcome of placing a red blood cell and an onion cell in hypo-tonic solution?

both the cell will swell and rbc will burst easily while cells of onion peal will resist the bursting to some extenct

What happens when excess water enters the plant cell?

If excess water moves into an animal cell, it will eventually burst. This happens if the cell is placed in a hypotonic solution (a solution with a lower solute concentration than the cell).
