You do not need to get a degree for your training as a paramedic. There are specific courses like anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, clinical procedures, biology, chemistry, and other related training. Taking a bachelors of science may help althought it is not necessary. Also, you need to pass the training, in order to have the qualifications for becoming a paramedic.

Paramedics need to be experts on the human body and it's functions; so in order to know about the body they'd need to study science and take it at school. As a paramedic myself, I've studied textbook after textbook and could tell you anything you wish to know from your pulse to your anatomy systems, to your blood cells. If you wish to become a Paramedic, I suggest you study the "Ross and Wilson: Anatomy and Physiology" textbooks, they're available on Amazon.co.uk priced at around £30.00.
To take paramedic courses you will need to learn how to deal with emergency medical situations. You will need to take CPR and to get a paramedic certification. For information on actual classes required, see http://education-portal.com/online_paramedic_course.html
