The Jewish prayer book is a collection of prayers and services that has been compiled over many hundreds of years. Nothing prevents an individual from silently speaking his own thoughts from the heart, but communal services in the synagogue follow the prayer book as their basic structure. The majority of Jewish prayer as codified in the prayer book consists of praise, a large part consists of thanks, and the smallest portion consists of requests. There are no prayers specifically designated or reserved for a rabbi or a non-rabbi. All recite the same prayers during the same services, and a communal service doesn't even require the presence of a rabbi.
