In simple terms... gravity ! Gravity is holding the air close to the surface of the Earth. The further away you are from the surface - the lower the gravity - and thus the lower the air pressure.

How does surface tension tend to minimize the surface area of the drop?

Surface tension is the result of cohesive, inter-molecular bonding amongst molecules of the same kind on the surface of the drop. They essentially are attracted by each other from the side and below, pulling each other tighter together. As a result, the entire drop begins to constrict into a spherical shape in hopes of trying to reduce surface stress caused by such tension at the surface by minimizing the surface area of the entire drop. A smaller surface area of the drop means the less number of molecules exist at the surface to be tuged and taunt by its neighbors. All liquids try to achieve minimum surface area because it is the most stable configuration.

Why does a restriction cause a drop in pressure?

A restriction will increase pressure and decrease volume

What does smooth surface mean in friction?

It then presume the friction is very small and presume no friction. In fluid and piping, it mean any pressure drop term is due to fluid motion and dispersion alone.

How much pressure does a rain drop have?

When a rain drop hits the ground it is exerting between 6 and 8 p.s.i.

Why the acceleration due to gravity is 9.8 meter per second and velocity is changed?

gravity is force of attraction that exists between masses , the earth being one (large ) mass , and you , another. Just by standing on the earth the soles of your feet will register the force of attraction between you, although you can overcome the entire earths gravity by(for instance) climbing some stairs. Although the earths gravity diminishes the further you get away from it, you have to travel a good distance away before you notice the difference, so in practical terms the earths gravity remains constant and about the earths surface will produce an acceleration towards its centre of about 9.8((m/s)/s), that is to say if you drop a stone from a tower its velocity increase will be 9.8m/s over each one second interval, for example: time from drop(s) velocity(m/s) 0 ----------------------0 1 ----------------------9.8 2 ---------------------19.6 3 ---------------------29.4 see also equation : force = mass * acceleration (issac newton) so essentially if you apply a constant force (in this case, gravity ) to a mass (stone ), it will gain speed (accelerate) uniformly

What can change from one state of matter to another at the temperature and pressure experienced at earths surface?

water changes from a liquid to a solid when you drop it below 32 F or 0 C. It also evaporates, changing into a gas in warmer weather.

Why does the pressure drop as you travel upward from earth's surface?

Air pressure is caused by the weight of the atmosphere above an object. When one goes higher, there is less air above and so the pressure drops.

Why is rotation?

You need to see a medical professional straight away. This could be caused by a drop in blood pressure or the blood pressure being too high.

How does air pressure drop?

Air pressure close to surface of the earth is 1 atmosphere. But as the altitude increases, air gets thinner in other words the molecules in air are farther than the one close to earth's surface. This causes the atmospheric pressure to decrease as we increase in altitude.

Why is everything rotating?

You need to see a medical professional straight away. This could be caused by a drop in blood pressure or the blood pressure being too high.

When was Pressure Drop - song - created?

Pressure Drop - song - was created in 1970.

Do the pipline losses reduce after the pipeline are in use for 1 year or so?

No. The pressure drop remains the same. The only thing that could led to a smaller pressure drop after 1 (or more) year, is the internal surface friction coefficient. But this coefficient does not change in a measurable way. Perhaps small particles are re-arranged inside the pipe, but the coefficient remains the same. So does pressure drop.

What is mean by pressure drop how can you measure the pressure drop?

Use a delta-p gauge

Pressure Drop - album - was created in 1975-11.

What would happen if there was less pressure on the earths inner core?

The melting temperature would drop. If it dropped to a point below the in-situ temperature, melting of the inner core would occur.

What layer of the atmosphere decreases with increasing height?

As altitude increases the temperature in the troposphere and the mesosphere drop. In the troposphere the temperature drops because the air is becoming further away from it's source of heat, the earth's surface. In the mesosphere a drop in temperature occurs as altitude increases because air becomes further away from it's heat source, the ozone layer. The layers as they appear closest to the earth's surface and moving away are: troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere and thermosphere. Weather occurs only in the troposphere.

What causes the air pressure drop as you travel upward from earth's surface?

Pressure is the weight of air column on unit area. As you go upward, this air column gets shorter, its weight gets less, hence air pressure gets lower.
