Our weight relies on the gravity pulling us towards the planet. Gravity increases with the mass of the planet, and the moon is much smaller than the Earth. Therefore the moon has less gravity than Earth and as a result people weight less on the moon.

Weight is the heaviness of an object in a certain gravitational field. (Mass is the intrinsic property that does not depend on gravity; on Earth they are comparable). On the moon there is less gravity so an object with the same mass with have lower weight.
