I bought a box of Great Value baking soda to use in my laundry. When I added water, it bubbled. My Armor and Hammer baking brand did not do that, ever, unless I added vinegar.
I am concerned that as they are so different, one may have an additive? Not sure so will not use.
no you will get a solution of sodium bicarbonate
Actually, yes, it will form bubbles. Baking SODA won't for bubbles in water. Baking powder will because baking powder includes an acid salt as well as just baking soda...
Double-acting baking powder contains sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and two different acid salts. When mixed with water, one of the acid salts will immediately react with the sodium bicarbonate and release carbon dioxide gas, in the form of bubbles. (The other acid salt does not react until a higher temperature is reached during baking--that's the "double-acting" part).
because the baking soda(Base) neutralizes the vinegar(Acid), it is just a neutralization and you will be left over with salt and water, you can even add sulfuric acid and baking soda together and you can drink it clean, it will be salt and water. the bubbling happens with limestone and acid, it is because they neutralize each other to a pH of 7 (salt and water)
Heated above room temperature or not, baking soda combines with acids in the batter to produce carbon dioxide bubbles.
Baking powder is a mixture of baking soda and a dry acid. When you mix it with water, the acid dissolves, reacts with the baking powder, and forms CO2.
Because baking soda is a powder and some liquids dont like powders so they react in bubbling
it just has to do with the cemecals in it
Baking powder has tartaric acid in already.
For a good long time if it is kept properly stored. Here is a test you can use to make sure your baking powder is usable . Put water in a teaspoon and sprinkle a little bit of the baking powder in the water. If your baking powder is good the water will fizz sort of like a soda does. if you don't hear or see the fizz then baking powder is no good and should be tossed out.
Due to the chemical reaction of the carbonated water interacting with the baking powder.
it will fizz a little
No, no heat is involved when mixing baking powder and water.
What can happen if baking soda and vinegar mix?
when baking powder combines with water, it turns into carbon dioxide which rises in the pastry, causing it to puff
If you look at the ingredients for Alka-Seltzer, you will find that it contains citric acid and sodium bicarbonate(baking soda). When you drop the tablet in water, the acid and the baking soda react -- this produces the fizz.
yes it does
Backing powder can be dissolved in lemonade.
Only certain brand such as Emergen-C specifically formulate their products to fizz when they come in contact with water. Crystalline vitamin C powder by companies like Solaray and Solgar for example, do not fizz but dissolve in water.
