Because granite forms instrusively. Under the ground so they cools slow and that's why they have large crystals.

Basalt froms extrusivelt. They cools so fast and that's why they have small crystals than granite

Sandstone is composed of particles of rock which have been cemented together. Granite, an igneous rock, is formed from magma, and the mineral crystals have followed a chronology of crystal growth which results in an intergrown texture which is much more resistant to weathering due to the lack of space between crystals.

Granite is an igneous rock. It forms from the solidification of molten minerals from a very high temperature. Sandstone is a sedimentary rock which forms from sand under modest pressure and temperature. Therefore, sandstone comes apart much more easily.

Granite weathers slower compared to marble. This is because granite is composed of four different minerals, while marble is basically pure calcite only.

Which do you think will weather at a faster rate sandstone or grantie?

sandstone will weather faster because it is softer than granite.

Does sandstone weather faster than basalt?

yes

What rock is harder than sandstone?

I am very sure that granite is much stronger and harder than sandstone.

Is granite or sandstone more expensive?

Granite is more expensive as it is made under the earth (metamorphic rock) and harder to extract than sandstone which is a sedimentary rock

Which rock is more porous granite sandstone or slate?

Granite particles are interlocked as the minerals formed from the slow cooling of molten material. Sandstone does not have the same interlocking crystal system, and voids between particles are generally larger.

How is Granite different from Sandstone?

Granite is an igneous rock formed from the cooling of molten magma deep within the Earth's crust, characterized by its interlocking crystals of minerals like feldspar, quartz, and mica. Sandstone, on the other hand, is a sedimentary rock composed of sand-sized mineral particles and rock fragments, usually cemented together by minerals like quartz or calcite. Granite is more durable and resistant to weathering compared to sandstone.

If a layer of sandstone is in contact with a mass of granite that contains small pieces of the sandstone which rock is older?

granite is older, Granite goes back more than 300 mya to the Ancestral Rockies or the first Rocky Mountains-Fountain Formation

What two reasons why it may be better to quarry granite or sandstone rather than limestone?

-Granite has little or no effect to acid rain whilst limestone is slowly eroded therefore granite lasts longer. -Granite is harder and stronger than limestone whilst limestone is easier to shape or mould. -Granite and sandstone are the most abundant minerals in the earth's crust.

Why does granite or quartzite remain in boulder-sized pieces longer than older rocks that do not contain quartz?

Quartz is a mineral that is resistant to weathering due to its chemistry and crystalline structure. Granite will weather faster than quartzite because granite is only partially quartz in composition.

Why was sandstone used to make gravestones?

Sandstone used to be commonly used for gravestones because it is easy to carve and make custom shapes. Over time, it was found that it does weather a lot worse than more solid stones like marble or granite. Sandstone gravestones are beautiful, but they are more likely to chip and to collect black crusts on the stone.

What kind of rocks make up buildings?

Granite, gneiss, sandstone, and schist. Possibly more than that.

How does granite form into Obsidian?

Granite cools slow. Obsidian cools fast, so faster than granite.
