its a bad way to make brown. Use yellow and red to mix an orange and then add some blue to darken it brown is a form of darkened orange. It makes brown because the pigments absorb light from all over the spectrum and brown is the result. Pigments are the particles in paint that are coloured. They absorb specific wavelengths of light and reflect all others. Brown is the result of allot of different wavelengths being absorbed.
