I think it's because link was forced through a twilight barrier and because he had a triforce, he was able to transform. All of the regular Hylians would turn into those green lights and the other triforce holders were not forced into a barrier. Or it could just be that the creators wanna confuse us all.

∙ 14y agoIn Twp you have to beat lakebed(the 3rd dungeon) and get the master sword. After that just press Z to talk to Midna. Select transform into wolf. Make sure no one is around you when you do or Midna wont let you!Also, you can walk into an area of twilight.

∙ 12y agoLink was trying to catch Ilia from the monsters and got knocked out. He went to go check out where Ilia had gone after he woke up. He found the Twilight Realm. He got pulled in and instead of turning into a monster he turned into a wolf that Midna took interest into.

∙ 13y agoWhen you are in Twilight before you have the Master Sword, then you will automatically become a wolf. When you have the Master Sword, you can talk to Midna and select, "Turn into a wolf".
