Starting point is to check for fuel at the carburetor and spark at the plugs. Whichever one is not there will give you a place to start backtracking to find the problem
A 1988 Dodge van would have throttle body fuel injection.
You need to determine if the problem is fire or fuel. On the firewall the is a white ceramic ballast resistor that is bad about burning out. It controls the fire to the distributor. If you are not getting fuel, then you need to check the fuel pump for pressure and volume.
For removing the fuel pump bolts on a 318, 360, 400, you would use a 1/2" socket. I used this to remove and install bolts on a 1977 Dodge Warlock with the 400 in it. Hope that helps.
