This is an electrical problem that happens with a lot of Caprice classics with digital spedometers. My speedometer works about 1 day out of the month and the will cut off the other 30 days.
There may be several reasons whey the digital speedometer might not work. The first is that the LED light may have burned out. The second is that the fuse may have gone out. It also might have a bad speedometer cable.
check the wiring to the speedometer. Check the sending unit as well. If the problem is internal then the speedometer will have to be replaced.
Yes you can order 1 from Dakota digital for about 650
Take off the black plastic piece in the speedometer (outside), take out the white plastic "Glass" of the speedometer (special tool required), then tight the screws around the speedometer screen. This panel is digital and require sometimes you tight or loose the screws who are located around that screen. I fixed myself my 94 Chevrolet without take off the entire panel. Good Luck!
The digital speedometer in your 1994 Caprice may not be working due to a faulty Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS), which sends speed information to the speedometer. Additionally, issues with the wiring or connections between the VSS and the speedometer can cause malfunction. A blown fuse or problems with the instrument cluster itself could also be contributing factors. It's recommended to check these components for any signs of damage or failure.
Perhaps one from a contemporary Cadillac DeVille or Fleetwood may work, those are about the closest equivalents.
Chevy Caprice had the digital dash installed from 1994 and up, but if you have an older model you can still get the digital dash.
I think there is some kind of speed sensor attached to the transmission. Probably a bad conection, a true Chevy trait. VBdenny
My 89Chevrolet astro van digital speedometer stop working. How do I fix it
Dash components can be changed to digital gauges. An online search should show several companies that show a digital conversion for a 93 Caprice.
a 95 harley does not use a digital speedometer. If urs has one, it is probably aftermarket modificiation.
To install a digital speedometer on a 379 Peterbilt, first disconnect the battery and remove the existing speedometer from the dashboard. Next, connect the digital speedometer's wiring harness to the truck's speed sensor and any necessary power and ground connections. Secure the new speedometer in place and reassemble the dashboard. Finally, reconnect the battery and test the speedometer to ensure it is functioning correctly.
