Urine is body waste. It smells bad because it it the toxins which leave your body. It's all the fluid you've drank throughout the day plus a mixture of uric acid and ammonia. It would be surprising if it smelled like aftershave. Incidentally, urine comes from the blood, as gross as that sounds. The kidneys filter waste from the blood and store it in the bladder, as urine, for disposal.

Urine has an odor for several reasons. First, urine contains ammonia. Then, when urine stands for a while, it spoils. Unless the person has an infection, urine is sterile when it first comes out. However, it soon attracts bacteria. Urine contains broken down blood proteins in the form of billirubin, so bacteria may be able to feed on that. In addition, urine may contain blood, pheromones, and/or hormones - each adding their own scents. Female urine may contain some traces of menstrual blood, since the urethra is located above the vagina in women. Male urine may contain androgen hormones which are known for odor, and those hormones are also found in sweat.

Another thing of note is that a number of mammals have scent glands, so urine from dogs and cats may have an additional odor. Cat urine is quite musky and may also contain a higher concentration of ammonia since cats are naturally carnivores. That is how the extra protein they eat breaks down.

Imagine having a glass of Orange Juice, coca cola, milk, water, and other stuff, then leaving it in the window with the hot (the window being the stomach) sun coming through all day (stomach heat). Would you drink it or even smell it?
