My 2002 GMC Envoy speedometer started registering double the actual speed last night. I called the dealership's service department and they said that they usually just replace the entire speedometer assembly, but didn't say what caused the failure. It will take several days to get it back, so I will try to update you once I get it back and hopefully a more detailed explanation. Wouldn't you know it, the speedometer was working perfectly on the way to the dealership. I went on anyway and discussed the options with them. Since it's electronic, the computer chip reset when the ignition was started, so it may never happen again or may again in several years, etc. Any case, the assembly would cost around $600, so I opted to wait until a hard failure before spending my money. Sorry, but this doesn't help your situation.

To calibrate the speedometer on a VW Vanagon, you need to determine the correct tire size and ensure it matches the speedometer's expectations. Start by measuring the actual speed using a GPS device or a speedometer app while driving at a consistent speed. If there's a discrepancy between the GPS speed and the speedometer reading, you can adjust the speedometer by changing the speedometer gear or using a correction factor if available. Finally, retest to ensure accuracy after making adjustments.

A car has a speedometer, which measures the speed of the vehicle in miles per hour or kilometers per hour. Velocity, on the other hand, is a vector quantity that includes both speed and direction. So while a car's speedometer measures its speed, velocity would require additional information such as direction to be fully described.
