In sexual reproduction the genes of two individuals are combined to create a more diverse set of genes in each individual. This gives more diversity in the offspring. As the individuals with good genes, as in genes that are helpful in their specific environment, are more likely to survive, this means that the species will evolve and develop positive attributes.
