If your snow burns, I have no idea why it turns black, because it wasn't what I would call snow in the first place.

Burning other things near snow may result in black soot deposits on the snow. Perhaps that's what you meant.

Not all things turn black when heated, but living things (or things that have once lived) normally do. That is because such so-called organic materials contain a large amount of carbon. Heat expells much of the amount of other elements that have formed chemical bonds in the materials, leaving the carbon behind. Carbon in this form is black.
