The " D " with a circle around it ( next to the neutral " N " position ) is the

overdrive position . That is the normal position when driving the vehicle , it

allows the transmission to shift into the fourth gear ( an overdrive gear )

when you are crusing at a higher speed . When it shifts into overdrive your

engine won't rev as high , your gas mileage will be better etcetera
