This is a literary device called personification, still used in modern writings.

AnswerWisdom, also called Lady Wisdom (Greek: Sophia) to avoid confusion was a spirit revered by Jews from the time of the Babylonian Exile until the end of the first century CE. There is an extensive genre of Wisdom literature both inside The Bible, the most important being the Book of Proverbs, and outside. Wisdom was even mentioned in the New Testament, for example: Luke 7:35: "But Wisdom is justified of all her children." Philo of Alexandria imagined her as the divine consort of God.

The Orthodox Churches have never abandoned the teaching of Wisdom as a feminine manifestation of God existing in the superterrestrial realm and inspiring godly persons to wisdom. The cathedral of Hagia Sophia in Constantinople, once the greatest church in the Christian realm, was named in her honour.
