Are you pressing the "unlock boot switch" on your key as you turn it in the ignition? Might seem a daft question, but it happens!
you use the key that you start the engine with
you go into your car and unlock it
the boot lock is jammed and I cant get it to unlock so that I can secure the car - how do I unlock it please? Key wont work
because of the anti theft system. just lock and unlock the car and start it agian!
What year model is? If it is a 1994-2000 you can connect a car battery to jump-start points in the engine bay, and open the trunk from the trunk release button inside the car.

This happens when the keypad isn't used to lock/unlock example when refueling if you don't lock the car then return to try and start the engine the security light illuminates the car runs for a second or two then stalls but if you lock/unlock the car will start the security light will not illuminate hope this helps
The trunk/boot unlock is always a separate button on the key fab. Unlock usually only unlocks the driver's door when pressed once and all doors when pressed 2 times. But if you are following the correct procedure to open the trunk/boot via your vehicle's remote, a failure of the trunk/boot opening mechanism is also a possibility. They typically have a plastic tab which can break off, disabling the trunk/boot from opening. This would have to be replaced if that were the case. A failure in the electrical circuit is another possibility.
turn the key once but don't start the engine for an hour to three.
You start the engine in neutral.
You start the car.
