Can you use mortar for grout on kitchen floor?
You can but it wont look very nice, if you use grout you get a smoother joint and you have lots of color choises.

You should use the grout that will work best for the biggest grout space that you need. So for a grout width like you described, 1/16 to 1/2, you should use sanded grout. Unsanded grout will look terrible in a 1/2" grout joint, but sanded grout will look great in both. Use sanded.

Why did my brown grout dry white?
All grout dries lighter when dry.but brown grout should not dry white. Check the date of; it might be passed its shelf life. look and see if you bought a light brown grout. You could cut the grout out with a grout rake but this would take ages
How do you grout tiles?
It is somewhat painstaking. There is a grout removal tool available at most big box hardware stores. It is basically a handsaw that uses hardened aggregate applied to the blade instead of teeth. You have to shave each joint down to a level below the surface that a new grout can be applied to and adhere (about 1/8" for non-sanded grout and 1/4" for sanded grout). If you are changing grout colors, you will want to use an acid (muriatic acid) to wash down the joint edges to remove any small amounts of the old grout at the surface edge that remain, prior to new grout installation. Because you are not installing the new grout to the full tile depth, it is advisable to use a latex additive to prevent cracking.
What product can you seal your kitchen tile grout with that will harden and last long time?
I had very dirty tile grout in my kitchen and bathrooms from one of those swiffer mops. After a few months the grout lines became dirty and even when I used bleach in the grout lines they would not get clean.... After a while I realized that my grout was not sealed when the ceramic tiles were laid down (ceramic tiles usually come sealed)....I went to an orange colored builder supply store and first got a professional grade heavy duty acidic grout cleaner. I followed the directions and then once it was dry and cleaned I used a high traffic grout sealer (was in a tall yellow container with blue writing...don't remember the name) and a roller to roll the grout lines...once it dried my grout lines were shiny and white! It doesn't matter what color the store is you buy a sealer from! Read the labels on any grout sealer!!! If it states that a second application can be made at a later date; that raises the question "What happened to the first?". Also, look for any cautionary statement "Do not allow product to contact glass or metal"! In either case these products will not give longevity as a sealer. A cementitous grout left untreated will absorb waterborne contaminates into the capillary pore of the grout that has not been waterproofed! Dirty mop water is a sure way to discolor a grout! I use a product direct from the manufacturer that waterproofs in one application and increases compressive strength of any Portland Cement based grout material. Once the grout has been waterproofed, an added benefit is; it does not allow formation of efflorescence crystals on a surface. Best to place this product the day after grouting to protect from construction residue. Low VOC allows application in an occupied interior space and your grout problems are over!
What color grout do you use for black wall tiles?
It depends on what look you are going for. A white or beige grout would provide a nice contrast. Black or dark gray also looks nice if you prefer a more solid color look.

Yes but not recommended. Even with the smallest grout lines, you should still use some kind of grout preferably unsandedgrout just match it with the color of the granite for a smooth continuous look.
