before a tornado arrives there are some of natures thickest clouds which block out light as they block out light the last colour to leave the sky is green, red, brown, or orange making it appear green, red, brown, or orange. Exactly the same as when the sun goes down sure the whole sky does not go green, red, brown, or orange, but if you look at the horizon the sun went behind just after the sun goes down the horizon will glow green, red, brown, or orange.

Severe thunderstorms usually have a very strong updraft which enables them to hold very large amounts of moisture in their upper portions. This moisture bends the light to give the sky its green appearance. Many severe thunderstorms are supercells, which produce the vast majority of tornadoes.

It is also related to the mechanisms that cause hail, which often accompanies tornadoes.

Tornadoes often occur in the late afternoon or early evening, and so after a tornadic storm passes through it may be sunset. The moisture added to the air by the storm that produced the tornado may result in a pink sunset.

In some cases, green clouds appear in thunderstorms that are dropping hail. Other times the cause may be the way in which the light particles from the reddish setting sun hit the blue clouds.

It often does, though not always. A green sky indicates that a thunderstorm is potentially severe, but not necessarily tornadic.
