Why does your cat meow when you touch him when he's kneading?

It's instincts, they are probably hungry because when they were kittens they probably knead there mother's bellies when they were hungry. Not quite sure why they chose blankets but every cat has there own little thing, my cat kneads my pillow :)

This may have an origin going back to their wild ancestors who would have had to tread down grass or foliage to make a temporary nest in which to rest, or possibly a remnant of the newborn kneading of the mother's teat to stimulate milk secretion: kneading is often a precursor to sleeping. Many cats also purr when kneading; they also do this mostly when newborn, while feeding or trying to feed on their mother's teat. The common association between the two behaviors may indicate the origin of purring as a remnant instinct. Some experts consider kneading to "stimulate" the cat and make it feel good, in the same manner as a human stretching.

There are a couple different theories.

One is that cats knead when they are kittens while nursing. This instinctual kneading helps stimulate the mother's milk production. They continue this into adulthood possibly as it reminds them of the comfort they took while nursing.

Another possible reason is that your cat is returning the affection you are giving.
