It all started back when George Washington was president. People urged him to make English the official language of the new country America. He didnt though because he said it would discourage other cultures and immigrants from coming to America.

America does not have an official language because it is a diverse and multicultural country. The absence of an official language promotes inclusivity and allows for the preservation of different languages and cultures. Additionally, the United States has a history of respecting individual rights, including freedom of speech and the ability to communicate in languages other than English.
