What death did Scrooge's father blame him for when he was a child?

However, and considering the era this was in, Little Fan is described as Scrooge's younger sister but from the narrative, it would appear not that much younger. Therefore, Scrooge's mother is unlikely to have died in this way! In reality, the cause of the estrangement is not disclosed in the story! It is more likely, if Scrooge did in fact cause the death, that his father remarried, and sent Scrooge away so he could continue with his new family. However, the narrative does not support this, which is only speculation anyway!
