Firstly it depends on the dog, whether or not it will submit to your aggressive handling. Secondly it depends on how hard you hold it shut, and, the meaning you put behind the grip.

If the dog submits to your holding its mouth shut then nothing much, if itobjects to your grip then once more it depends on the signals you are giving your dog and why you are doing it.

I would like to ask you why you wish to hold it shut, is it a power thing or is it affection?

My cat loves to tuck its head under my arm pit, must love the smell, and feels close, from that I found I could encapsulate her entire head in both my hands (yes I have got big hands (and yes she is a small cat)) she is more than willing to let me do this, and, in fact she seems to enjoy it, and, actually comes to look for more. Now does (she or me)think that is somethingthe otherneeds and gets pleasure from or does (she or me) actually get pleasure form it, it works both ways.

I would have to see the dog and both your actions, before I could make an assumption.

? ...they will try to get away to release themselves from your grip. if you're hurting them they will wine.

If a dog has its mouth open, it can mean other things as well, not just hungry.

--It might be panting after being taken for a walk or run.

--It might be yawning because its tired.
