Plastic spoons aren't used for cooking because the heat in the pan might melt them, introducing the plastic to the food, ruining it. It can be used for putting the food on a plate, or for scooping ingredients into a pan, however. Anything that doesn't involve direct heat should be fine.

I use a wooden spoons for cooking because they to not scrape the surface of metal and non-stick cookware. Also, they tend not to warp in extreme heat like plastic spoons, and are generally durable and reliable.Also, many people believe that bacteria grows faster on plastic and metal spoons. Wooden spoons are biodegradable and they tend to be a good shape for stirring!

There are almost countless numbers of things made from thermosetting plastics. Just a single example are the plastic forks, knives and spoons that we consider as "disposable" or "single use" utensils.
