Why do a giraffe have a long neck?

There are many other animals in the African plains that like to eat the same plants as giraffes. Because of this they need a long neck so when the other animals eat the leaves closer to the ground(as high as they can reach), there will be plenty of leaves , up high, for the giraffes to eat.

a giraffes neck is long because once the giraffes all had small necks, but then they ran out of food , and they couldn't reach the trees and branches, a mutation in the genes occured and that giraffe had a long neck, it was able to reach the leaves and survive to reproduce
