The reason why Christmas is different from other federal holidays is because for Catholics and Christians, it is believed that it is the birthday of our Savior.
----------------
It is observed on the same date of the month every year, whereas Thanskgiving is always on a Thursday but not the same day of November; and some holidays (as President's Day) are now always on a Monday.
Ironically, nobody has any evidence that Jesus was born in December. Christians started celebrating Christmas at the time when other people were celebrating Saturnalia--easier to give converts a new focus for the event than get them to stop celebrating.
Memorial Day (a US Federal holiday), and Armed Forces Day (although not a US Federal holiday).

Africa is a very large continent which consits of many different countries, all with their own cultures. Many north African countries are Islamic and celebrate holidays of the muslim faith. In western, eastern, central and souther African countries, there are many Christians, as they are former European colonies, so would celebrate Christmas, though not necessarily with the same customs as are common in the USA and UK. In other countries which are neither Muslim nor Christian, they may have their own occasions which they celebrate, but it will not be instead of Christmas.
Although the whole military never takes a break for the holidays, especially those in combat and critical jobs, troops in training will generally be off from a week before Christmas to a few days into the new year. Others will work half-days or one day on-one day off schedules during the holidays. There is a story told that in the French front during WWI the American and German soldiers stopped fighting on Christmas Eve, and began to sing carols. Both the Germans and Americans joined in the middle of the battlefield and for one day exchanged gifts like food, enjoyed worshiping Christmas, and then returned to their tranches and resumed fighting each other the next day.
No, each holiday is celebrated separately. Christmas is one of the holidays in December, but there are also other holidays celebrated in other religions.
A wreathe is used at Christmas but may be used for other holidays as well with different decorations.
Some holidays in the United States when businesses are closed are most federal holidays such as Christmas, Veterans Day, Memorial Day and the Fourth of July. Other holidays when businesses are closed are Presidents' Day and Columbus Day.
Which are the holidays, other than Christmas and Valentine's Day to give gifts?
merry christmas, and any other holidays
That would depend on the holiday. St. Patrick's Day would be celebrated very differently than Christmas Day would be, for example. There are no parades on Christmas Day for people to go to and on St. Patrick's Day, people would not spend the day at home eating large meals. Christmas is very much a family time, compared to other holidays. Other holidays are different too, like Easter or the various bank holidays. As they are at different times of year, what people can do is different. So it depends on the holiday and the people involved.
