The settings in Edward Scissorhands create a major contrast, the entire movie although over dramatic helps to convey the idea of the director. For example Edwards mansion is dark dreary and not a very welcoming place and this gives us the impression that Edward will be a representation of his mansion, when really he is a kind, caring and very shy young man. The suburban streets are made to look welcoming and candy colored e.t.c when really whats underneath that is lies and deceit.

Edward Scissorhands was important to Burton because as Depp once said: " Tim is Edward." Burton was able to see himself in the role of an outcast in suburbia because he did. With Burton growing up in Burbank, it is easy to see how he did not fit in like Edward did not fit in.

Edward is the main character. It follows his journey through a stereotypical suburbia as a young man who could be believed to be handicapped by his lack of proper hands.
