As it is closer to the equator, it's very warm. Being a peninsula, it's surrounded by plenty of water to be evaporated due to the warmth. This brings humidity, and rain.

Because It is so hot and humid. In the summer you get the seabreeze of the Gulf and Atlantic which causes showers and thunderstorms.. but they usually dont last over 25-30 minutes.
