King Tut's mask is significant because it is the only solid golden death mask found of a ruling Pharaoh. As it was found in an intact Tomb, the only one, in the Valley of Kings and could be put in its contexts it became all the more valuable. Almost nothing had been known about Tutankhamun till the discovery by Howard Carter, which made King Tut, the boy king, the best known Pharaoh of ancient Egypt, though in reality he was only of minor importance. He acquired immortality in a way he could never have imagined.
