Yes, Las Vegas is in a desert in Nevada.

"Las Vegas" means "the meadows". It originally got that name because there was at least some water, and therefore some vegetation, in that particular location, but the surrounding area is indeed pretty dry.

Yes, las Vegas is built in the desert. it was built in 1911,(im almost positive), and gets its water from the Colorado River. Please correct me if im wrong, by the way.
