Why is My Chemical Romance called My Chemical Romance?

Mikey Way (the bassist, for those who don't know) came up with the name. The name came from an Irvine Welsh novel Ecstasy: Three Tales of Chemical Romance. The band just changed it to My Chemical Romance.

It also has to do with lead singer and front man, Gerard Way's addiction to anti depressants at the time My Chemical Romance began. Gerard says that it was very fitting at the time because of it, and would later relate to his drug and alocohol abuse.

Gerard and Mikey Way used to work at a Barnes & Nobles and Mikey found a book called "Ecstasy: Three Tales of Chemical Romance" (by Irvine Welsh).
At the time Gerard (lead singer) was addicted to prescription drugs, so they decided to add a "My" to the beginning, just to give it a little twist.

Lead singer Gerard Way experienced 9/11 and wrote a song about it (skylines and turnstiles). At the time he was a comic book writer but after 9/11 he wanted to make a difference to the world so he formed a band. Gerard's brother Mikey Way got the name my chemical romance from an Ivrine Welsh novel. The band also admire a number of bands such as iron maiden. Frank Iero started playing the guitar when he was 10 only because he was inspired by other bands. Gerard Way was isolated at school because he was different.
