Because Edward killed James as he tracked Bella and tried to make her a snack. She doesn't want to kill Edward, but a mate for a mate.
Vampires are strong believers of revenge which helps this make sense. Killing a mate is one of the harshest things to do because they end up having to live forever without the one you love.

If you have Sean\read twilight and new moon the this is what happens Victoria comes back to kill Bella (because Edward killed her friend so shes killing Edward's) and they start up an army of their friends and Victoria starts up an army of new borns (dangerous vampiers) and goes after Bella the to sides fight and Edward and Bella's side win and then they have another run in with the voltari but they all survive and then it gust following in to the next book and then Bella get marrid to Jacob

James & Victoria are like the opposite of the Cullen's. The Cullen's are the good vampires however James & Victoria are the bad vampires that drink human blood. James and Victoria are mates.
She found Bella because she found Edwards scent and knew that Bella would be where he was. But Jacob was not hiding in the forest when Victoria came, it was only Edward, Bella, and Seth.
