gps is use to determine a place in which you are at by a satellite by a formila of (velocity x time= distance). and they also use a thing called triangulation which is using three to prove latitude and longitude but four to obtain altitude. (there are currently 24 satellites in the air). the military uses gps to know where all there soldjers are and to get a clue on where the enemy is. comertial airlines use gps to determin where there air planes are and to know how close other one are.

∙ 11y agoApart from the fact that traditional maps are less convenient and less interactive and therefore less efficient than digital maps, one of the main reasons traditional paper maps are being superseded by GPS, is that a paper map cannot be updated and GPS can be updated daily.

∙ 8y agoGPS' have the capability of locating where it is on earth with a usually high rate of accuracy. Maps are still useful when you can't use a GPS but you have landmarks around you to use as a reference for your location.
