The book is called an Atlas because, in Greek mythology Atlas a Titan was forced by Zeus to hold up the Sky (Oreunous) from touching Earth (Gaia) for all eternity for leading the Titans into battle in the Great Titan - God war. In many sculptures and pictures of Atlas he is shown holding the world on his back. That is the reason the book is called an Atlas.
