The main advantage offered by using alternating current is that it is easy to achieve the transmission of large amounts of power over very long distances and to do it much more cheaply than by using direct current.

The most efficient way to transmit energy by wire is to make it low current and high voltage. AC voltage can be transformed very easily with Transformers (called stepping-up and stepping-down), and Transformers only work with AC.

Powerplants produce AC by default, so it would take additional effort to convert it to DC.

It is much easier and cheaper to convert AC to DC than to convert DC to AC.

Another answer

An AC voltage can be easily transformed to a higher or lower voltage, with very little loss of power, by passing it through a device known as a transformer.

Alternating current can be converted into direct current very easily so that dc can be made available to any equipment which needs it.

Alternating current can easily be converted to a higher or a lower voltage - a simple transformer is enough. Doing the same with direct current requires some involved electronics.

It's not "better". It's different, which is better in some ways and worse in others.

The substantial advantage it has over DC for power transmission is that it's relatively easy to step up or down the voltage as needed using transformers. This allows the use of very high voltages for long distance lines, while using a relatively low voltage in homes (high voltage incurs lower transmission losses; low voltage is safer). To do the same with DC would be expensive and problematic.

Because alternating current can be stepped up and down with a transformer. It is stepped up so that more power can be transmitted over smaller conductors, and then stepped down to useful levels at regional sites in a multi-level hierarchy.

DC is used in simple systems like cars which rely on a battery, and most electronics systems like computers and radios run on DC and require a converter if run from the mains.

What is meant by alternative current?

Alternating current is more efficinent. It is wireless and more efficient than direct current. And it is safer. Plus Tesla is better than Edison

Which type of current invovles flow of charge in two directions?

A direct current involves change of flow in a single direction. DC (direct current), at least on the macro scale. On the atomic scale, they seem to wander all over the place between atoms, and the average movement is what we measure as current.

What is the difference between Alternators and generators?

Generators produce electricity as direct current and Alternators produce electricity as alternating current. As alternators produce electricity more effeciently, and they are smaller and lighter and are used in modern vehicles.A generator creates direct current in the manufacture of power. An Alternator creates alternating current in the creation of power. Alternators can have diodes installed internally so that they have a D.C. output.

What is different between alternating current and direct current?

Direct current is constant - always in the same direction. Alternating current regularly changes direction; for example, in household current, 50 or 60 times (that is, full cycles) in every second.See the Related Link below for more information about the difference between alternating current and direct current.

Why is there only one circuit in the series connection?

Current flow direction is not dependent on whether or not it's in a series or parallel circuit. Current directional flow is solely determined by the power source. For businesses and residential power, utilities use various forms of alternating current. For example, the United States utilizes alternating current that changes directional flow 60 times per second. Some parts of Europe use alternating current that changes direction 50 times per second. Many electronic devices use a direct current source in which the current flow is only in one direction, from negative to positive or a converter that changes the alternating current source power to direct current.

Whether high impedance drives the currecnt or voltage more?

No, This will act in reverse.Note: This will act only for alternating current and there will be no effect on direct current.

Is 1 volt more then 1 DC volt?

No, it is the same. DC stands for direct current rather than AC, which is alternating current.

What can change alternating current to direct current?

A diode will let current pass through only in one direction. Note that this will result in a pulsating current; to make the current more regular, you also need capacitors.

Is alternating current more used than direct current?

As the name suggests, alternating current is an electrical alternative to the more direct current. but direct current only functions between 8am and 9pm (GMT), so at weekends all electrical appliances will revert to the alternative option, ie: the alternating current, because of the built-in crinkly chip Therefore if you calculate the number of hours in a week, since the commercial use of electricity, and compare it with the number of hours in a standard European weekend (taking into account the clocks going back and forward and hour, and the Earth's rotation) you will find the number of hours in a weekend is in fact greater than the number during the week, and therefore alternative is used more.
