In southern Sweden an eel has been living in a five meter deep water well since 1859, so it's at least 152 years old. It's been caught and documented in 1972, 1985 and 2008. Both the -85 and -08 catches were shown on national television. The exact age of this eel will not be possible to determine until it dies. In 2008 the eel was 0.535 meters long and weighted 187 grams. The Swedish national fishing institutes' eel-expert says it's the most extreme eel he's ever seen, with giant eyes from living in the dark for so long.
