Because you cannot extract coal from a mine when youre halfway across the earth.
Erm, no coal isn't a mineral - it is a rock. I wouldn't describe it as being extracted from the bowels of the Earth - it's mined.
Coal, graphite, diamonds...
Coal is extracted in two methods. One is by digging tunnels into the earth and following the vein of coal, removing it by rail cart. The other is strip mining where they remove the earth above the coal and dig down to it. This way usually involves the removal of entire mountain tops to get at the coal. Recently however they have started to replant the vegetation when they are done to reclaim the land back to a natural state.
A vein in rock is a line that contains another mineral besides the larger percentage of what the rock is made up of. A vein, for example, could be a vein of coal in a coal mine. Coal is extracted out of the rock.
I believe that they dig it out from deep within the ground. After all, coal is composed to dead/decaying living matter. I could be wrong, and I'm sorry if I am. Someone fix it if I am! D:
Most coal and oil are natural and is extracted from the earth. Most coal and oil are natural and is extracted from the earth.
Coal is extracted from the ground by digging it out. This is usually done with machines, but in tight quarters may be done by workers using shovels and picks.

Petrochemicals come from petroleum -Oil. However, some chemicals extracted from petroleum (petrochemicals) , may also be extracted form coal.

Gold is extracted from the earth itself, near the place underground where coal miners work.
It isn't - it is a mixture of compounds. There are 100s of chemical compounds that have been extracted from coal. It is a mixture of these
Both coal and oil are carbon-based fossil fuels that must be extracted from underground.
There is very little coal left in England as most of it has already been extracted.
Oil can be extracted much easier than coal because it is a liquid. Once the oil reservoir is tapped, it can be removed relatively easily, whereas coal must be physically removed at every extraction.
