How osmosis differs from diffusions?

both are the same processes but the difference is that , in osmosis there is a need of semi permeable membrane for the results whereas there is no need of this in diffusion bcoz it took place directly....................

What is the difference between simple diffusion and facilitated diffusion?

It doesn't. (answer by RRU member Cyrem)

Is the universal indicator or phenolphthalein is more accurate?

THe universal indicator is more accurate as it can detect different ranges in the pH, whereas phenolphthalein only changes at a ph of 8.0

What is the same between osmosis and diffusion?

It's easier to understand the similarities between osmosis and diffusion if we look at their differences. Basically, diffusion is the random motion of particles along the concentration gradient (simply particles moving from high to low concentration) Whereas osmosis is specifically the motion of water molecules across a selectively permeable membrane (think cell membrane) from an area of high water concentration (or potential) to an area of low water concentration (or potential) So what's the same? they both: follow the gradient (high to low concentration) meaning they do not require energy to occur will continue until concentrations are equal on both sides there are more similarities, but it might be easier just remembering that osmosis is just selective diffusion (esp for solvent molecules, most often water)

What is a property of pure salt that changes when it is dissolved in water?

Firstly, pure salt is white and it becomes colourless when dissolved in water. Secondly, solid salt is a non-conductor of electricity, whereas the solution is an electrolyte and conducts well.

Does active transport rely on the process of diffusion?

Yes except, diffusion is a passive process (no energy is required) whereas active transport requires energy. this is because it is moving UP then concentration gradient whereas diffusion moves DOWN it

Is it true diffusion is a type of active transport?

Yes except, diffusion is a passive process (no energy is required) whereas active transport requires energy. this is because it is moving UP then concentration gradient whereas diffusion moves DOWN it

What the difference between contagious diffusion and hierarchical diffusion?

contagious diffusion is strongly associated with local distance effects, whereas hierarchical diffusion often involves the leapfrogging of innovations among widely separated places

Is diffusion part of an active transport?

No, diffusion is where particles flow in order to be equal, whereas active transport uses ATP to move them through a cell membrane.

Why does active transport require more energy than osmosis or facilitated diffusion?

Active transport requires more energy than diffusion this is because during active transport, the molecules are being transported against and toward the concentration gradient whereas in diffusion, the molecules go from the concentration gradient.

Why do capillaries permit the diffusion of materials whereas arteries and veins do not?

why do capillaries permit the diffusion of materials, whereas arteries and veins do not? Because the capillaries are the only blood vessels whose walls are thin enough to permit exchanges between the blood and the surrounding interstitial fluid

Are upper air winds unaffected by the coriolis force?

Only subtropical high pressure is affected by coriolis force whereas upper air winds (jetstreams) are not affected.

How do diffusion of gases differ in day time and night time in plants?

This is because during daytime there is exchange of O2 gas due to diffusion whereas at night time there is exchange of CO2 . This is how diffusion differ in day and night time

What is an example of passive transport across a cell membrane?

Osmosis is a type of passive transport. It is specialized diffusion. It can occur through the membrane itself. Or through an aquaporin channel protein. Other forms of passive transport include: simple diffusion and facilitated (uses channel protein) diffusion.

Why is facilitated diffusion faster than simple diffusion?

Facillatated diffusion is faster than simple diffusion when solute concentration is low because it uses channels to transport molecules throught the lipid bilayer. Simple diffusion depends upon concentration gradients so the net movement of diffusing molecules depends on the concentration gradient, thus the rate of diffusion is directly proportional to the concentration gradient. Simple diffusion is also a type of passive transport, which requires no energy input, whereas facilitated diffusion is protein mediated transport. Passive diffusion of solute into a cell is linearly related to the concentration of solute outside the cell. Carrier proteins increase the rate of diffusion by allowing more solute to enter the cell. Facilitated diffusion, however, approaches a maximum rate as the carrier proteins become saturated with solute.

How is a slant of a line affected by a positive in a equation?

The line goes 'uphill' whereas if it was negative it would go 'downhill'

Explain the difference between adaptation and evolution?

Adaptations refer to changes adopted by individuals whereas evolution applies to changes involving the entire population.
