The UV light from the sun damages the cell and as a person ages the cell gets weaker and causes skin cancer. Because of the thinness of the ozone layer more UV light is hitting the earth. The same UV light is used in tanning beds so those are also dangerous.

Excessive sunbathing can lead to short-term effects like sunburn and long-term effects like premature aging and skin cancer due to the harmful UV radiation from the sun damaging the skin cells. It's important to practice sun safety by wearing sunscreen, protective clothing, and seeking shade to reduce the risk of these harmful effects.

When you sunbathe, you are lying out for the sun's harmful UV rays to hit and tan your skin. This is dangerous because these UV rays can damage skin by burning it, having a higher cancer probability.
