Is saying oh my God bad?

If you're thinking about God when you're saying it then yes but if you're not

really thinking about God when you say it then no. Religious people think

that saying Oh my God is using God's name in vain. People who aren't

religious don't think that though. Even if saying Oh my God is a sin

then you're forgiven. It says in the meaning of the Second

Commandment: We should fear and love God that we do

not use his name to curse, swear, lie, or decieve, or use

witchcraft. And saying Oh my God really isn't using his

name to curse, swear, lie, or decieve. Now if you

were to say "God damn" then that would be

bad because you're using God's name to

curse. Saying " I swear to God" is also

bad.

Some people believe that it is wrong to use God's name as an exclamation, based on the commandment, "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain." Others, who see no harm in such expressions, nevertheless are careful about using them in order to avoid offending those who are sensitive.

the definition in the websters new world dictionary says this;having no real value or significance; worthless; empty; idle; hollow, the Name of the Lord should never be takin in any of these forms, it should always be full of substance for example.

Praise, to Glorify, to lift up, to exalt, to be thankful. to give worth to. for even Christ himself Gave Honor, by starting out the Lord's prayer. Matthew6:9 says, after this manner pray ye our Father which art in heaven HALLOWED BE THY NAME. I know many people dont respect His name but many do reverence it, for example the Jewish faith will not even speak his name unless in prayer if they spell his mame they will spell it

G-d or even L-d they reverence the Name of God so much, but many take Gods name in place of a curse word like many will say the name Jesus Christ in the moment of frustration or anger and even people will say OMG In stead of saying (o s#%t).

but The Bible teaches in Exodus 20:7 that The Lord will not hold him guiltless.

So if you say you Love God why would any one do this since he gave his life for yours.

Unless you are sincerely saying it as a prayer or speaking to God for help, then it is not good to say that. That is disrespectful and offensive to God. Think of how you would feel if people would say your name frivolously and in vain.
