The desert generally has low humidity and little cloud cover to hold in the heat at night. Therefore, the heat easily radiates off into space once the sun sets.
The low humidity and lack of cloud cover allow most of the day's heat to radiate back into space, even from rocks that are scorchingly hot in the daytime sun. The dry air is not a good storage medium for heat, compared to humid air or large bodies of water. In places like the mountains of Colorado, most of the precipitation is snow, and the air cannot absorb and hold much humidity. On an average day, the difference in temperature can vary as much as 40 to 60 degrees. The high can be 95°F and the low 40°F.

Why does the desert turn cold at night?Sand easily gets warm and cool, as it absorbes heat quickly, but does not retain it.

Also the lack of cloud cover in the desert allows heat to escape a lot easier into the atmosphere.
the sand cant hold the heat.
it reflects the heat by the day, which is quite a lot and dosent hold anything for the night.
The reason the desert is cold at night is because after the heat from the sun wears away, the desert is just a flat, dark plain. There's lots of wind that chills the desert at night. That is one of the many reasons people that are travelling in the desert travel at night; so they can avoid the heat of the day.
There are no clouds to stop the heat escaping.
You know the deserts are very hot places, but did you know that they can become very cold at night? The sky above a desert is usually very clear. So during the day, the ground absorbs most of the sunlight that strikes it, heating the surrounding air.

At night the reverse happens. Since there are no clouds over a desert to trap the heat, the land gives off heat rapidly, and it becomes very chilly. In fact, though daytime temperatures in the desert average 38 c, in some deserts it can get down to -4 c at night.
Because during the day there are no clouds to block the sun- this means it will be extremely hot. However there are no clouds at night meaning that the heat is not locked in underneath the clouds. This means that the heat can just rise leaving the desert very cold at night.

There are few clouds and very low humidity in the Sahara that would act as a blanket to hold in the heat of the day after the sun goes down. Therefore, the heat radiates back into space.

The Sahara Desert sky is usually cloudless. Without cloud cover there is nothing to prevent the day's heat from escaping into the night sky, which may fall to below 0°C.
